EcoPro BM Expands Production Capacity for Cathode Materials

The cathode material manufacturer EcoPro BM is increasing its production scale to meet electric vehicle demand,. The company reported a monthly production capacity for NCA and NCM cathode materials of 15,000 tons at the end of 2022, which rose to 15,800 tons by the end of 2023 and remained at that level through the end of 2024. According to the company, this capacity increased to 20,300 tons by the end of 2025 and is expected to remain at 20,300 tons by the end of 2026.
To manage geopolitical risks and respond to market shifts, the company is establishing production facilities within Europe. This expansion includes the completion of the EcoPro BM Hungary campus in November 2025. The company also established several entities in Canada in February 2023 and a subsidiary in Indonesia,.
Research and development efforts are focused on high-nickel and next-generation materials. The company is currently developing high-nickel single-crystal cathode materials, mid-nickel materials, and high-manganese materials. Other ongoing projects include the development of high-performance lithium iron phosphate materials, sodium-ion battery cathode materials, solid electrolyte materials, and silicon anode materials.
Investment in research and development as a percentage of revenue was 1.45% in 2024. This figure rose to 1.64% in 2025 and reached 1.65% during the first half of 2026.
Legal and contractual obligations include three pending lawsuits. These involve a case regarding the Occupational Safety and Health Act and two disputes related to contract violations and performance guarantees, both involving claims denominated in Canadian dollars. The company also maintains a joint venture agreement with Samsung SDI regarding EcoPro EM, which includes put and call option rights if the contract is terminated due to the fault of either party,.
